Money, we need to talk
The time has come for us to define this relationship. We have been going at this for a long time now, without making progress. After much reflection, I have determined that it’s not you, it’s me. I want to strengthen our relationship, and to accomplish that, I need to put forth the time and effort. I need to learn about me and how I can help you excel to your highest potential. Money, you are on my side and want the best for me, thus I will do my part.
Now, I would be remiss in acknowledging the headwinds we are facing – decreased purchasing power, rising credit card interest rates, weakened residential real estate market, increasing health care costs, etc. But I actively refuse to allow those factors to determine my financial success. I will evaluate my financial picture, seek out sound wisdom, and work to improve our relationship.
Money, I promise that I will:
Discover what resources are at my disposal and seek out opportunities to expand those resources
Plan in a manner that aligns with my values and goals
Learn how to have healthy and honest conversations about finances
Become a more informed participant of the credit system
Understand how to make you work for me more efficiently
How can I accomplish such lofty promises? First, by seeking out quality financial education. Teaching that can highlight where change and being open to a different idea, however challenging, is for my good. Instruction that causes me to engage with money on a deeper and meaningful level by understanding habits, beliefs, values and developing strategic goals. Facilitated discussions that foster ideas and options, without judgement, that have the potential to improve my current financial situation.
Second, enlist the help of a financial coach. I know Money, a financial coach sounds really cheesy and for kids. But every high performing athlete had a quality coach to hone in on the details of form, mastery of fundamentals, and knowledge of the game. Perhaps a financial coach can do the same for me. My chances of making good on all my promises can be improved by the assistance of a financial coach. I want our relationship to change for the better, so I will do whatever it takes to make that happen.
If that inner discussion with your money sounds familiar, I invite you to join us for Your Money Sound to start changing your relationship with money.
Until we meet…keep working on the change.
