Show love through money - give

The second way we can show love through money is giving.  You might be thinking, ‘I give to the utility company, the apartment complex and the grocery store.  Isn’t that enough?’  Not exactly the giving I was referring to, and sure, that could be enough.  I meant generosity with our time or resources.

Volunteering

Helping others walk towards a pathway to success takes significant time with no guarantee they will be successful.  But seeds of wisdom need to be planted for a chance to sprout.   There is a range of opportunities for us to impact communities.  Below are a few options.

Big Brothers, Big Sisters – Big Brothers Big Sisters helps children realize their potential and build their futures.

Journey Forward Mentoring – mentoring organization focused on encouraging and supporting Dallas, Texas high school and post-secondary students to excel academically, professionally and ultimately, in our communities.

The Senior Source – The Senior Source champions older adults.  We empower active seniors to live with purpose and protect vulnerable adults.  We advocate for all of our rights as we age and ensure that financial and emotional well-being is achievable.

We can also use our hands and feet to support local non-profits in our community.  Most of these organizations operate on a lean budget, so a strong contingent of volunteers is how these organizations accomplish their goals.

Salvation Army – Its ministry is motivated by the love of God.  Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

Trusted World – Trusted World is committed to providing the best resources, at no cost, to people or organizations who are providing services on someone else’s behalf.

 Charitable donations

Sometimes our own life experiences forge a connection with community initiatives.  If we have understand unstable housing or food shortages, we may be drawn to support food pantries or shelters.  Our families may have been tragically impacted by a terrible disease and we support those organizations in their fight for a cure. No matter the reason, we have a deep desire to help others either reduce the impact of this difficult season or prevent it altogether.

American Heart Association – Over their 100-year history, the American Heart Association has been fighting heart disease and stroke and helping families and communities thrive.

Alzheimer’s Association – Alzheimer’s Association leads the way to end Alzheimer’s and all other dementia by accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection and maximizing quality care and support.

United Way – Every day, the UW works to help communities through Youth Opportunity, Healthy Community, Financial Security and Community Resiliency.

In 2017, the National Day Calendar and Impact Foundation founded the National Giving Heats Day.   The second Thursday of February every year highlights an opportunity to donate to your favorite charity.  Although this day primarily focuses on organizations serving the Midwest, that doesn’t mean our generosity is closed off to our own communities.  #GivingHeartsDay

Numerous studies in the last 20 years have suggested there is a connection between generosity and personal finances/building wealth.  Those who regularly give, either of their time or resources, see material increases in their wealth.  Could it be purely anecdotal and unscientific?  Sure, but no matter what, it is better to give than to receive.  Try loving others by giving this year.

50/70/100 principle.  Make at least one person’s life better by being a part of it.  Don’t hold yourself in the shadows.   Happy to chat.  Email or call at letstalk@studiomfinancial.net, 469-615-0387.  Until we meet…keep working on the change.
