Show love through money - affirm

Week 3 of showing love through money is “affirm”.  Dictionary.com defines ‘affirm’ as to support (someone) by giving approval, recognition, or encouragement.  Sounds warm, fuzzy and easy, right?  It is on February 14 when bright lights capture the sparkle on champagne classes and gem encrusted jewelry.  But what about a random Tuesday in June?  Can we appreciate the contribution our partner makes to keep our household running efficiently when the budget is tighter than expected?  Do we recognize numerous hours of overtime at a demanding job that keep them away from home more than desired?  But those extra hours are to help save money to purchase a much-needed new washer and dryer.  Should we encourage our partner to advocate for an overdue promotion at work?  That promotion might alter the schedule (and location) of the family, but that promotion is a giant step in the direction of a fulfilling career.

Each person shares in the financial responsibilities of the household differently.  The best time to say “thank you” is when times are the hardest.  When those clothes smell so fresh and clean, remember the diligence and commitment demonstrated to make that a reality.  When 100 boxes are unloaded from the moving truck and stacked around a new home in a new city, think back to your spouse’s face of relief when you encouraged them to run after their dream because you are there to support them.

Reaching agreement on every financial choice might be a challenge.  But I encourage you to appreciate and encourage your partner’s contribution.  That small gesture can go a long way in improving communication and finding places of unity.

50/70/100 principle.  What can you do today to affirm your partner’s financial efforts to your home?    Email or call at letstalk@studiomfinancial.net, 469-615-0387.  Until we meet…keep working on the change.
